BES User's Guide:
Working with separate subnetworks
If you use Borland Enterprise Servers on two or more subnetworks, you may
encounter problems locating objects across subnetworks.
Smart Agents that use the same UDP Broadcast port automatically locate each other
on the same local network. However, many sitesdo
not allow UDP broadcasts to
cross subnetworks. In these cases, Smart Agents on separate subnetworks cannot
communicate with each other.
To correct this situation:
1 Open the Console, select the Servers view, and navigate to the Services node in the
tree.
2 Select the Smart Agent service, then
right-click and choose Configure from the
context menu.
3 Select the Address File tab which displays the agentaddr file that contains an IP
address for each Smart Agent that needs to communicate. This IP address
represents the host where the Smart Agent is running.
For example, the following file includes information for two Smart Agents:
199.10.9.5
101.10.2.6
